Prof Rajendra P. Shrestha, Dean of School of Environment, Resources and Development attended the Forum of Belt and Road for Deans of Environmental Schools which was held at Tongji University, China from 10-11 Dec 2018. This event was participated by 50 Environmental deans/directors from 23 countries from Asia, Africa and Europe including 25 universities from China. Prof. Shrestha gave a keynote talk on “Environmental Education in Asia”.

At the forum, an Alliance of Belt and Road for Environmental Deans (ABRED) was formed. This is a network of an apolitical academic and research institutions working together for the common good towards sustainable development under the framework of UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It aims to provide a strategic and inclusive platform to share sustainability solutions and bridge the regional and cooperation among belt and road countries. The ABRED secretariat is hosted by UN Environment – Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (TIESD) headed by Vice President of Tongji University, Prof. Wu Jiang. The Deputy Dean Prof. Fengting Li of TIESD is elected as the Co-chair of ABRED. Asian Institute of Technology is a member of the Alliance and Prof. Shrestha is elected as the other co-chair of ABRED.
