Three students from AIT were selected and given the opportunity to travel to Tongji University in Shanghai, China as participants in the Asia-Pacific Leadership Program on Environment for Sustainable Development on September 23-27, 2019. The said training program was participated by 30 selected participants coming from 13 countries. The diversity of the group was composed of people who are working for the academe, NGOs, ministries, private companies and post graduate students. The goal of the said program is to develop leaders who could become an effective advocate and mover on sustainability for sustainable development.

The training program this year focused on the goal “Sustainable Consumption and Production”. The one-week program was a combination of activities ranging from lecture series, exercises and simulation activities to help the participants to further enhance their understanding on sustainable development and the importance of leadership in SDG implementation. In addition to this, the participants were also given the opportunity to visit two multinational company in Shanghai, the BMW Motors and Coca-Cola to personally see and experience the integration of sustainability practice in their production.

According to Ms. Arlene Gonzales a PhD Candidate in Climate Change and Sustainable Development, she is very thankful and grateful for all the opportunities she had since she came to AIT. Her exposure to international conferences and workshops has made her establish her international linkage and collaboration which she can use even when going back to her country (Philippines).
