degree options

The academic programs in The School of Environment, Resources and Development are open to the following options:

1. Master degree options

Option 1. Regular M.Eng. or M.Sc (Thesis)

Within at least two years students can obtain a Master of Sciences (M. Sc.) degree by completing a 48 credit curriculum, consisting of 26 credits of coursework, and 22 credits for thesis. The 26 credit course works include required courses, and electives including Institute Wide Course (IWC), as stipulated by each program. Programs open for regular master’s degree are: DPMM, GDS, NRM, DPMI (formerly RRDP), UIS, CCSD, SE, SEG, AARM, ASE, ABM, FEBT, FINH, and UWEM.

Option 2. Regular M.Eng. or M.Sc (Research study)

Within at least two years’ students can obtain a Master of Sciences (M. Sc.) degree by completing a 48 credit curriculum, consisting of 36 credits of coursework, and 12 credits for research. The 36 credit coursework include required courses, and electives including IWC, as stipulated by each program.

Option 3. Regular M.Eng. or M.Sc (with Minor)

Within at least two years’ students can obtain a Master of Sciences (M. Sc.) or Master of Engineering (M. Eng) degree by completing a 48 credit curriculum, consisting of 24 credits of coursework, 12 credits of research and 12 credits for minor courses as stipulated by each program for minor. The 24 credit course works include required courses, and electives including IWC as stipulated by each program. Programs open for minor are: DPMM, GDS, NRM, DPMI (formerly RRDP), UEM, CCSD, SE, SEG, EEM, AARM, ASE, ABM, and FEBT.

Option 4. M.S. (One-year)

Programs can also be applied for One year M.Sc/M.Eng. degree. Students have to complete 30 credits coursework where 6 credits can be a special study option. Programs open for One-year degree are: DPMM, GDS, NRM,DPMI, UIS, CCSD, SE, SEG, AARM, ASE, ABM, FEBT, FINH, MPA, RS and USPD.

Option 5. MPhil (2 Years)

All regular programs in SERD are also open for MPhil degree. Within at least two years’ students can obtain a M. Phil degree by completing a 48 credit curriculum, consisting of 3 credits of coursework, and 45 credits for thesis.

2. Doctoral Degree

All programs in SERD offering regular master’s degree are open for doctoral degree. Within at least three years’ students can obtain Doctor of Philosophy (P.hD.)/ Doctor of Technical Science (D.Tech.Sci) or Doctor of Engineering (D. Engg) by completing (84 credits) with 12 credit coursework with minimum 3.25 CGPA and successful completion of the dissertation and minimum one publication in peer-reviewed international journal approved by Doctoral Program Review Committee (DPRC).

3. Flexible Degree Options

The “Flexible Degree Option” is a new alternative to our traditional “On-campus Master/Doctoral Options” to conduct studies at AIT. It is applicable to the following selected SERD programs ASE, ABM, CCSD, DPMI (formerly RRDP), DS, FINH, NRM, SEG and UIS. Students will receive the same degree and the same academic requirements apply as the program offered in our regular “On-campus Option”. Students can do almost all coursework online via AIT’s Hybrid Mode of Instruction (FINH may require a lab work on campus).

The new AIT OPEN MASTER OF ENGINEERING/SCIENCE IN INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES (OMIS) is a truly “Multidisciplinary approach” spanning all existing programs at AIT. It is designed for students with a clearly articulated research plan of multidisciplinary nature. We seek students who have unique educational objectives and want to pursue a multidisciplinary study spanning over different fields.

Some Programs can also be applied for One year Professional Masters degree. Students have to complete 30 credits coursework which include 24 credits of coursework and 6 credits of project work. Programs open for PM One-year degrees are: DPMM, ESAM,ESD,YPM-SBE.

Certificate students need to satisfy the eligibility requirements similar to those entering the master's degree program and have the appropriate background to take selected courses. In exceptional cases, candidates who lack formal academic qualifications but who have extensive and appropriate professional experience may be considered for admission; the discretion in such cases rests with the School Deans.
