Master of new technologies using services (MONTUS) project is financed by the European Union in the framework of Erasmus + Capacity Building.  MONTUS funded for 3 years, gathered around 14 partners coming from European (France, Italy and Brussels) and Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia). MONTUS came directly after TORUS Erasmus+ capacity building program with the ambition of to develop research on cloud computing in the environmental sciences and promote its education – creation of a dedicated master, Hanoi – in the countries of South East Asian partners.

On 18 – 22 February 2019, Prof. Kim Oanh and Dr. Ekbordin Winijkul joined the first MONTUS workshop in Toulouse, France. In this workshop, all 14 universities from different countries, i.e., France, Italy, Belgium, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia presented information about their universities and activity plans to use big data/cloud computing for solving environmental issues under this project. Activities at AIT was presented by Prof. Kim Oanh focusing on a plan for using the cloud system at AIT for air quality modeling research.

The workshop also included presentations of cloud computing experience in different countries focusing on improving environmental monitoring and modeling capabilities of Southeast Asia. The major output of the workshop was to start a collaboration network for cloud computing on environmental studies between Europe and Asia.
