Dr. Krishna R. Salin, Associate Professor in the academic Program of Aquaculture and Aquatic Resources Management at the Department of Food, Agriculture, and Bioresources in SERD is elected as the Director of World Aquaculture Society-Asia Pacific Chapter (WAS-APC).

WAS is run by a Board of globally elected officers from among its members every three years. Dr.Salin was elected as a Director of the WAS Board in May 2019 by a global ballot and will serve on the Board until 2021. The first meeting of the new Board was held on the sidelines of the Asian Pacific Aquaculture (APA 2019) Conference at Chennai on June 2019. The major responsibility is to foster closer networks among international aquaculture professionals, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.

World Aquaculture Society (www.was.org) is the world’s biggest professional organization in aquaculture with its headquarters in the USA. WAS has a wide base of over 3500 members from more than 100 countries. The Society has seven chapters – The Asia Pacific, Japan, Korea, US, Caribbean, Latin American, and African. Apart from chapters, WAS also has affiliates in many countries. WAS is a dynamic organization serving the global aquaculture community as a neutral platform for enhanced communication, collaboration, and information exchange.
